Get a Sponsor Form for Baptism or Confirmation
To be a sponsor for Baptism or Confirmation your must have received all three sacraments of Initiation including Confirmation, be a registered member of the Parish, go to Mass on a regular basis, and if married be married in the Church. The reason for these requirements is that a sponsor is a witness or example to the Catholic faith for the newly baptized or confirmed. To put it in contemporary terms, they are a mentor in the ways of faith. How can a person be a witness to the faith if they are not living the faith them self?.
To be a sponsor you have to get a sponsor form from your Parish priest. You get a sponsor from the Parish where you are registered, and attend Mass on a regular basis today. Thus if you received your sacraments at St. John of God, but no longer attend Mass there you would not ask to get a sponsor form from us. You would get it from the Church were you worship today.
The procedure to get a sponsor form is to first called the rectory, and speak with Lydia our Parish secretary. She will check to see if you are registered. You then see Fr. Babiczuk after one of the weekend masses to get the form itself. Fr. Babiczuk mainly gives out sponsor forms before or after weekend Masses. There is no need to make an appoint to see him during the week. Simply see him after a weekend Mass.
