Lectors
The proclamation of the Scripture readings is an integral part of the Mass. The Ministry of Lector requires a prayerful study and reflection upon the readings which will be proclaimed to the congregation. Lectors are assigned to the Mass time of their preference approximately once each month. The parish provides a copy of the annual "Lectors Handbook" to each lector. The handbook includes the weekly scriptural texts and catechesis for review. Parishioners who wish to serve as lectors should contact the rectory office.

Altar Servers
Boys and girls who received their first Holy Communion are invited to become altar servers. This is an important ministry in the church. It is a great opportunity for our children to participate in the life of their parish by serving at the altar in a special way. This service allows them to grow in the understanding of this beautiful gift of the Eucharist. Serving requires instruction and then a commitment to serve faithfully. This commitment is not impossible for youngsters their age especially when parents encourage them.
Our parish is proud of our young people, from the third grade through high school, who are servers. There are adults who serve as well.
Families with youngsters who have served Mass in former parishes and may have recently moved into St. John of God parish may begin serving at any time after a brief orientation to our sanctuary and procedures. Please contact the rectory office.
